Drew Lock, a second-round draft pick out of Missouri, started the last 5 games of the 2019 season. He guided the Broncos to a 4-1 record, equaling the mark set by John Elway for the most wins by a Broncos QB as a rookie. Lock plays with flair and passion, and he's set his teammates and the Broncos fan base afire with enthusiasm and hope for 2020 and beyond!
Week 13 at Mile High
Broncos beat the Chargers 23-20
Lock threw 2 TD passes to Courtland Sutton in the first quarter. The Chargers came back to tie the game in the fourth, but in the Broncos' final drive Lock aired a deep pass to Sutton which drew an interference call. This set up a 53 yd field goal by Brandon McManus for the win.
Week 14 at NRG Stadium
Broncos beat the Texans 38-24
Going up against Deshaun Watson's Texans (who would go on to win the AFC South), this was Lock's finest outing. He passed for over 300 yards and 3 TDs on his first road start -- something no other NFL rookie had ever done. This time it was rookie tight end Noah Fant who teamed up with Lock for the early-game heroics. On the first play from scrimmage Fant caught a short pass and broke it downfield for 48 yards. Six plays later Lock hit Fant with a 14 yd TD pass.
Week 15 at Arrowhead
Broncos lose to the Chiefs 23-3
A letdown, as the offense sputtered with Lock going just 18-for-40. (Heck, it was a blizzard after all.) But Drew was upbeat: "As bad as people are going to say it looked and how we feel right now, we are going to go back, we’re going to watch it and we are going to realize that there were plays there to be made, and if we make a couple here and there, that is a different game."
Week 16 at Mile High
Broncos beat the Lions 27-17
After getting behind early 10-0, Lock engineered a 75 yd TD drive culminating in a one-yard plunge by Royce Freeman. Later, McManus kicked a 34 yd field goal to tie the game at the half. The Lions got the lead back late in the game, but Lock answered with a 3 yd TD pass over the middle to DaeSean Hamilton. Phillip Lindsay's 27 yd TD run sealed the rookie QB's inaugural fourth-quarter comeback!
Week 17 at Mile High
Broncos beat the Raiders 16-15
This was a sweet victory over their archrivals, all the more so because there were some weird scenarios whereby the Raiders could actually make the playoffs with a win. Lock went a solid 17-for-28 for 177 yds and one TD. He and DaeSean Hamilton hooked up five times for 65 yds, and Lock rushed for 29 yds. The raiders scored with 0:07 remaining to get within one point, and opted to go for two. Derek Carr had Hunter Renfrow in his sites, but NT Shelby Harris stepped up big-time and batted the ball away!
