HANDS ARE VERY EXPRESSIVE. SOME PEOPLE ARE SAID TO “TALK” WITH THEIR HANDS AS THEY MAKE ALL SORTS OF GESTURES, POSSIBLY LEADING TO HISTRIONICS, WHILE EXPOUNDING. I FEEL ONE CAN ALSO “DANCE” WITH THE HANDS. IT IS FASCINATING TO ME TO THINK ABOUT THE INTERACTION BETWEEN THE BRAIN AND THE HANDS. SOMETIMES WHEN I LAUNCH MY HANDS INTO DANCE, THE BRAIN IS THE CHOREOGRAPHER AND THE PERFORMANCE IS “JUST SO”. AT OTHER TIMES, I CHANNEL ISADORA DUNCAN’S INTERPRETIVE DANCE CONCEPT AND FLOW FROM THAT INTO A FREEFORM IMPROVISATIONAL ROUTINE; ONE OF WHICH IS THE SUBJECT OF THIS ESSAY.
